What is the essence of our
Christian faith?
The answer seems
obvious: Jesus and His cross. No other
religion in the world points to a Savior. All other religions only point to
what the individual must do to save himself or climb his way back to God. Indeed it is sad when even Christians see
salvation in self-help, inward reflection and mindfulness, striving for
perfection and the like. Rather let us remember Jesus’ own words, “As Moses
lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that
whoever believes in him may have eternal life.”
