Fourth Sunday after Pentecost Devotion, July 6

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

Most of us have experienced a time in our lives when we feel we just cannot go on. We have used up all of our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual resources.

When this happens to children, mom and dad are there. We are cuddled and cared for. Dad can fix things that are broken. Mom can kiss a hurt and make it better.

At some point in life young people have an irresistible urge to become independent. The siren song of self-reliance is too strong. Still, often when finances or the stresses and strains of life become overwhelming, young people will return home to the security of family for help.

Unfortunately there are times when no human assistance is available or even possible. You feel alone in your battle and all of your resources are exhausted. Jesus’ sweet words of comfort are for you. He is there when no one else is.  He invites you to find rest in His arms for He will never leave you nor forsake you!

Lest you have any doubt about this, look to Him there on the cross where He sacrificed Himself for you. His ultimate will for you is to receive His grace and mercy. He grants you forgiveness, walks with you down life’s path and prepares a place in eternity for you. Rest secure in His loving embrace.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, may I trust your promise to never leave me nor forsake me. Grant that I may truly experience the rest that you provided for me through your death on the cross. Amen.

God’s richest blessings in Christ,

Pastor Philip Quardokus
